.COM TLD является Тонким WHOIS. Когда Вы выполняете запрос WHOIS, инструмент WHOIS сначала отправляет запрос WHOIS Verisign (имя хоста whois.crsnic.net), и извлеките направление из ответ.

По умолчанию при запросах Verisign от домена example.com Whois выполняет очень широкий поиск строки "example.com" в нескольких различных объектах включая доменное имя, имя регистратора и серверы имен.

Команда выше делает точно, что я объяснил. Вместо google.com это отправляет Verisign полному запросу "домен google.com". Необходимо явно передать флаг-h, потому что Whois пытается предположить имя хоста для запросов от запроса, но он перестанет работать, потому что он не распознает запрос "домен google.com" как допустимый домен.
